The History of Folsom Lake RV
Charles opened an RV Service business in 1983, after personally traveling around the US and Canada in his 5th wheel for five years. Charles used his pickup truck with a service box to provide service to customers in the West Sacramento KOA. He then rented a small warehouse in West Sacramento, then several moves to bigger locations, to handle his growing business.
In 1985, Charles came to Rancho Cordova to visit a dismantler and saw a property that was available for rent. He negotiated a lease on a 5,000 square foot building at Fitzgerald and South Sunrise. He had very little capital so the tenant improvements, the move and the expansion were all financed with credit cards. The business was mainly service and parts with Cruise America Rentals added and also selling an occasional used RV.
Around January 1989 he received a call saying that a nearby RV Dealer was going out of business and would he like to purchase their new inventory. He accepted. Now CVL RV had expanded to sell new RV’s.
After trying his hand at a second location on El Camino Blvd in 1990, Charles quickly realized that running a second location was a handful. That year interest rates sky rocketed and the economy slowed. Everything was consolidated back to the Sunrise location after a year and a half of struggles.
He gained control of the business and once again it prospered.
Charles began looking for another location that would meet the growing space requirements and offer more visibility. July of 1998 he opened the doors of his new location as Folsom Lake RV.
